As I said in my last post, it’s Virgo season and I’m super hyped for it. But you don’t have to be born under The Virgin in order to appreciate the most Virgo-ful time of the year. Even though we Virgos might have a reputation for being a little uptight, you can actually find a lot of joy in bringing a little Virgo energy into your life.
To prove it to you, here are six small but special ways to celebrate Virgo Season.
(Pro-tip: don’t take a shot every time I say “Virgo” in this post, you’ll absolutely get alcohol poisoning.)
1. Clean your room
I know, I just promised you some fun and I’m already starting to sound like your mother. But look, you’ll feel so much better when your bed is made and your floor is vacuumed and you have a nice scented candle going. Close your eyes and think of how soothing that will be.
Now open your eyes, turn some fun pop music on, and pick those damn socks up off your floor.
2. Listen to some Beyoncé
Yup, Beyoncé is a Virgo, and she has the best music video of all time. You can celebrate other Virgo creators by watching some JennaMarbles youtube videos, binging Riverdale featuring Lili Reinhart, or scrolling through Blake Lively’s Instagram.
3. Take a walk or something
Virgos are an Earth sign. This is typically understood in a more metaphoric sense: Earth-signs tend to be grounded and dependable. But interpreting this literally is an excellent way to take advantage of beautiful late-summer/early-fall weather and get some fresh air at the same time.
(The weather is still gross in D.C., but I plan on taking my own advice once walking outside no longer feels like walking into a literal swamp.)
4. Purge your closet
Earth signs are deeply grounded in the physical world, which makes them susceptible to becoming too attached to material possessions. A very-Virgo way of combating this is to declutter your closet. I prefer (my bastardized, simplified version of) the Marie Kondo way of doing this: hold each item in your hands and ask if it sparks joy. Are you keeping it around because it really makes you feel good or is it tied to some sense of obligation or anxiety? If it no longer brings good feelings, thank it for its service and donate/sell it. Then neatly re-organize your closet. Isn’t that so damn satisfying?
5. Have a mini-spa hour (or two, or three…)
Virgos are notorious workaholics, but everyone has have the tendency to run ourselves into the ground sometimes. Whether it’s the start of school, stress at work, or just the weight of the world piling up on your shoulders, take a breath and then give yourself a break. You deserve it. Run yourself a bubble bath, light some candles, put on a face mask, and try to get out of your head for a bit.
6. Lend a helping hand
Virgos are apparently caregivers, and even though you can use Virgo season as inspiration to get your own shit together, there’s a different kind of fulfillment in helping someone else. You could donate to charity, but monetary spending isn’t necessary. Write someone a nice Instagram comment, bake a batch of cookies for your coworkers, help your friend with a hard task… or just resolve to be a little bit kinder and do it whenever you can.
… I know, this particular Virgo really knows how to party.
